The Keystone UAS made the trip to "The Bullring" - Naugle Speedway. With the points race a toss up at this late point of the season, every position is valuable.
Denny Furlow was able to hold off a hard charging Paul Deasey Jr to put the Chautauqua Machine Specialties LLC 77F into victory lane. Dan Burket came in third, followed by Brian Hartzell and Scott Deasey. Next stop is the final regular season race of 2018 - the John Smith Memorial national 1/4 points race at Blairsville Speedway.

Mother Nature gave us another clear sky to race under - and some screaming hot temperatures. The Keystone UAS made the trip to Race-1 Motorspeedway for the first national 1/4 points race of the season. Fourteen muscle karts took to the track. Heats were split - here's a look at the results.
Heat 1A; 51A Steve Windle Jr Heat 1B: 707 Paul Deasey Jr Heat 2A: 51A Steve Windle Jr Heat 2B: 919 Brett Mesler For the feature, 12 of the 13 muscle kart drivers took to the track. On the start, Paul Deasy Jr's ride from the outside of the front row, popped the chain at the drop of the green causing the field to stack up behind. Some drivers got in the dust outside of the groove putting up a huge cloud and bringing visibility to nil. KUAS points leader Dan Burket, Bob Windle, and Hillary Truitt were caught up in the incident ending their day. All were OK (minus some bruised and being sore) after the incident. The race ran clear the rest of the way with Steve Windle Jr crossing the line first for the checkered flag. Here's the finishing order:
Thank you to all the drivers that rolled out early to make it to Race-1 for the afternoon show on such a hot day. Everyone kept their cool and put on a great show for the full fences. Next trip is "The Bullring" - Naugle Speedway in Aliquippa, PA July 28th. Steve T The Keystone All-Stars rolled into Red Rock Raceways after a weather driven hiatus for the 3rd points race of the season. Brandon Oldham won the UAS race and also picked up the win in the PA Mini Outlaw.
Finishing Order:
Thank you to Chuck, Verna, and the staff and crew at Red Rock for welcoming the KUAS and providing a great facility for us to put on show. Next stop is at Race-1 Motorspeedway July 14th for an afternoon shootout in Dubois PA. This is the first KUAS national 1/4pts race of the season. Steve T Well, it looks like Mother Nature is waging her own little contest with the Keystone UAS. The second event of the season, May 19th at Pittsfield Championship Karting Association was a was with heavy storms that rolled through the area. Race 3 slated for June 23rd at Deerfield Speedway was called when a week of rains hit the area and a 90% forecast of storms through the weekend. So what does this mean? As per the KUAS meeting at the bench racing awards gathering before the season, both rain outs will count as the 2 drops in the season. All races not cancelled - (Flatrun and any we get in the rest of the year) will count towards KUAS rankings. The bonus points for participating in all KUAS events during the season is still in effect.
Maybe in a couple of weeks at Red Rock we will get one in! Thanks all for the patients - some things in this world there is no control... Steve T The 29th season of great racing action for the Keystone Unlimited All-Stars is nearly a month away. This would be a great time to revisit the rule book to check and double check to make sure you are a safe as you can be hurling these muscle karts around the area tracks. I fully understand there are risks and dangers each time you head out on the track. The little things we might normally overlook when putting these one of a kind rides together, like wire ties, clipping, double nuts, etc key components in the kart. If you have any questions, please let me know or the administrator for your area so we can get them answered before towing to the track.
For those who do not have the winter edition of American Muscle Kart Magazine that has the rule book in it, visit www.unlimitedallstars.org and click on “RULES” . That will take you to a PDF download file of the rule book. I encourage everyone to have a copy in their trailer or shop so instead of guessing you can look at what the rules state. Again, if not sure, please let your regional administrator know so it can be cleared up. Happy and Safe racing starting soon!! Steve T At the annual Keystone UAS awards, bench racing, and B-S' ing session there was some official business to attend to. This is the best time when most, if not all, of the staple KUAS racers join together and make any tweeks to the the rules for the season.
What was decided (by unanimous or majority vote) at the meeting: Rainouts and Drops: The region allows for 2 races to be dropped during the season (7 scheduled points races - best 5 count for points). After last season's weather, it has been decided to count the rainout races as drops. After 2, all remaining points races that are run will count towards the points championship. Meaning the season championship will be based off of the total races we get in. Bonus Points: 3 Bonus points will be awarded at the end of the season to those who participate in all points races that are run during the season. This is a way to reward those who make the shows each week and encourage regular attendance at the events. 3 points may not sound like much, but we have had several ties(including points championships) over the last 5 years. If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, feel free to let me know. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks Steve T The 29th season of muscle kart racing for the Keystone UAS is only a few months away. Working with the other area regions; Empire, Upstate NY, and Central NY; has yielded a year of muscle kart racing that has 1 weekend from late April to early September without an event! This schedule may seem a little choppy as compared to other years, but I was trying to give the max opportunities for drivers to test/practice at Hunterstown for the nationals. So here it is:
May 5th - Flatrun Speedway, Morrisdale, PA May 19th- Pittsfield Championship Karting , Pittsfield, PA June 23rd- Deerfield Speedway , Deerfield, OH July 7th - Red Rock Raceway , Pavia, PA July 14th- Race-1 Motor Speedway , DuBois, PA *1/4 point* July 28th- Naugle Speedway, Aliquippa, PA August 11th- Blairsville Speedway , Blairsville, PA (JOHN SMITH MEMORIAL) *1/4 point* September 2nd- Race-1 Motor Speedway , Dubois, PA (RACEFEST) *NONPOINT* September 15/16th- Hunterstown Speedway , Gettysburg, PA (UAS GRAND NATIONAL) October 5-6th - Oakland Valley Race Park (OVRP) , Cuddebackville, NY (NE DIVISIONAL) I can't wait to see everyone this upcoming year! Feel free to "like" us on Facebook , follow on Twitter @KUAS89, and visit the website www.keystoneallstars.weebly.com for additional schedules and information. Steve T Several drivers from the KUAS traveled to Caroga Creek Speedway for the Northeast Divisional. Mark Bergfelt, Paul Deasey, Jr, Denny Furlow, Brandon Oldham, and Hillary Truitt entered the event. Without a mountain of details, Deasey and Bergfelt were the only ones to advance to the A Main that had nearly 40 muscle karts entered. Deasey finished 12th and Bergfelt 16th respectively. Overall, the racing was fast and the show was run efficiently. A last lap pass and major dash for the flagstand saw Terry Hollifield cross the stripe with the win and the big check!
Thanks to Mike and Alan Lane for all the work they put in, Jimmy White as the Northeast Divisional race director, the staff at Caroga Creek Speedway for the facility, and all those who traveled to make it such a great day of racing. 2018 will be here before we know it, I have been approached by another track that was on the UAS schedules years ago about making a return to the facility. Not to mention the KUAS is the host region for the Northeast Divisional! Lots to do and so little time to get there!! Enjoy the off season and feel free to reach out to me anytime! Steve T The 2017 KUAS campaign ended just as it started, with a rain out. The final race of the season at Pittsfield Championship Karting Association was called due to weather coming through the area. This season was our first returning to a drop race setup after a few years of scheduled rain out "wild card" races. Going into the race, only 2 points separated Paul Deasey Jr and Dan Burket for the 2017 crown. If the race would have happened, the worse 2 races would have been dropped. However, this rainout made the points system default to a discussion at Red Rock Raceways in which the 2 drops were going to be held unless there was a race cancellation. Then it would go to a 1 drop- still giving the drivers 4 out of 5 points races. There has been discussion of using the rained out races as drops and/ or adding another points race to the season. The series rules state no rain make up races, it becomes an issue if someone has plans and inevitable ends up with a conflict. On that note, drops are in there so if there is a schedule conflict, this gives participants the leeway of not being penalized for attending another event, a family outing, a bad night, or what have you. This season, a few drivers mentioned to me that they would not be able to make all events and were planning a drop race to attend whatever. Some worked out being rain outs, others needed for an active race. I am open to free discussion and taking a region vote on possible improvements/ changes for the 2018 season.
So, here are the top 10 in points for 2017
Steve T The Keystone UAS joined in with the Empire Region on a trip to Blairsville Speedway for the John Smith Memorial race. There were 16 muscle karts set to take the track. Heats were broken into 2 sets of 8.
Heat 1 A winner: 919 Bret Mesler Heat 1 B winner: 7x Eric Grice Heat 2 A winner : 7 Dan Burket Heat 2 B winner: 77F Denny Furlow The stage was set for an exciting feature. Burket had the advantage early but was caught in lap traffic and spun. The lead passed to 63 Ben Taft who was able to hold off the hard charging 707 of Paul Deasey Jr for the win. Feature results:
More details will be covered in the article for AMK Magazine Next is the final points race of the season at Pittsfield Championship Karting Association on September 2nd! See ya then! Steve T |
