JOSH HUGHES VICTORIOUS AT COVE VALLEY KUAS RACE
Cove valley was in great shape for the KUAS visit to the speedway.
Josh Hughes was dominant in the first heat starting from mid-pack.
In the second heat, Brandon Oldham, driving his back up kart since the brand new engine on his brand new kart threw a rod out ot the back of the block, was the winner. It looked like it would be an easy win until the caution came out on the last lap. The officials decided on a green, white checker finish and those final two laps turned out to be a dog fight between Oldham and Hughes with Oldham holding him off
It was all Josh Hughes in the 20 lap feature.
1 #7 Josh Hughes
2 #XXX Brandon Oldham
3 #707 Paul Deasey
4 #77X Dan Burket
5 #38 Randy Adair, DNF with a clutch that literally came apart and distributed itself all over the track.
6 #B-99 Mark Bergfelt, DNF shaking the bugs out of his brand new kart.
Saturday night came alive at Race-1 Motorspeedway when the muscle karts turned loose at Race-1 Motorspeedway! Three drivers; Jimmy White, Brett Mesler, and Tom Voeltz, came down from Upstate NY to the 1/8th mile bullring to join a hand full of the Keystone UAS drivers to put on a show for a big crowd at the "Big One". To the action.. Jimmy White powered his way to a win in the opening heat. Heat 2 saw a see-saw battle for the top spot. White battled from the back of the field during a late caution to take the lead from Hillary Truitt with just a couple laps remaining. Top 3 from heat 2 - White took the win, followed by Randy Adair, and Truitt in 3rd.
Time for the feature and attrition took a toll on the bulk of the field. Three of the seven muscle kart drivers that signed in finished the night out. A quick caution flew and the 77x of Dan Burkett, pulled off with the 20 of Hillary Truitt just behind him. Both karts were battling engine issues most of the night. The green flew and White jumped to the lead and never looked back. The 919 of Brett Mesler had some late issues and pulled off, leaving 3 to take the checkers.
1) 925 Jimmy White
2) 6 Tommy Voeltz
3)2R Larry Riegelman
4) 919 Brett Mesler - DNF
5) 20 Hillary Truitt - DNF
6) 77X Dan Burkett - DNF
7) 38 Randy Adair- DNS (Clutch)
All in all, the UAS drivers made a great impression on the crowd. I was asked until the time I left about the muscle karts and if we were going to be back there again!
Thanks again go to Andy, Sheri and the staff at Race-1 for all their hard work!
