The 2017 KUAS campaign ended just as it started, with a rain out. The final race of the season at Pittsfield Championship Karting Association was called due to weather coming through the area. This season was our first returning to a drop race setup after a few years of scheduled rain out "wild card" races. Going into the race, only 2 points separated Paul Deasey Jr and Dan Burket for the 2017 crown. If the race would have happened, the worse 2 races would have been dropped. However, this rainout made the points system default to a discussion at Red Rock Raceways in which the 2 drops were going to be held unless there was a race cancellation. Then it would go to a 1 drop- still giving the drivers 4 out of 5 points races. There has been discussion of using the rained out races as drops and/ or adding another points race to the season. The series rules state no rain make up races, it becomes an issue if someone has plans and inevitable ends up with a conflict. On that note, drops are in there so if there is a schedule conflict, this gives participants the leeway of not being penalized for attending another event, a family outing, a bad night, or what have you. This season, a few drivers mentioned to me that they would not be able to make all events and were planning a drop race to attend whatever. Some worked out being rain outs, others needed for an active race. I am open to free discussion and taking a region vote on possible improvements/ changes for the 2018 season.
So, here are the top 10 in points for 2017
