The John Smith Memorial, the final race of the season and the second national quarter point race. Going into the event, Denny Furlow and Paul Deasey Jr were tied for the points lead. Dan Burket was in third, only two points behind. Brian Hartzell and Mark Bergfelt were within striking distance, inside 20 points from the lead three. Fourteen muscle karts entered the last points race of the season. Remember Mother Nature- well we lucked out on this race. All forecasts pointed to the continuation of rains we had seen all week. By Saturday morning, the forecast was looking better and by the start of racing- no rain in sight. Action was close and got faster and tighter as the night rolled on. Some favorites in the event fell victim to mechanical issues. The feature started thirteen and racing was close and fast. Very few cautions and lots of position swapping. Out front was Dan Burket for most of the race and as the laps were winding down a fast approaching Brandon Oldham kept cutting the lead down. When the checkers flew, Burket held on for the win.
With the win at Blairsville, Burket not only won the race but claimed the Keystone UAS Championship. This is Burket's first KUAS Championship - although he has been within striking distance for a few seasons now. What a great year and an exciting way to wrap it up! Thanks to everyone who made this another one for the record books! 2019 marks the 30th season of muscle kart racing so hang on, it's going to be a ride!! Steve T
