The KUAS will continue to use the Rained Out system for event notifications. As many of you have been notified, Rained Out is no longer a free service. I will be sponsoring the service cost that way we can continue to be connected for any changes through the upcoming season. Does that change how other tracks communicate with our region? That is to be seen so far.
Also the schedule for 2020 is nearly finished. I am hoping to have it finalized and posted soon. Feel free to let me know any questions or concerns you may have. Thanks! Steve T

We wrapped up the year with the John Smith Memorial at Blairsville Speedway. We were able to get our first heat in before the rains came, just enough to make the track fast and bitey for the second heat. Kyle Pease set a UAS fast lap record at Blairsville and what could be a track record with an 11.891! Pease rolled to the win and secured his place as the 2019 KUAS Champion!

This leads to the final tally for KUAS - Points listed below are with 1 drop. For a full listing of points, please see the "KUAS POINTS" page. Top 5 in KUAS Points 2019:
A hot day in the Central PA mountains was the site of the next to last season race for the KUAS, Red Rock Raceway. This year we teamed up with the Empire series, who was hosting a 1/4 point race, to put on a show at the home of the 2019 Northeast Divisional.
The night was fast and racing was great - from each heat to the feature. However, bad luck was strong for a couple of the drivers. Eight muscle kart pilots took on the 1/8 mile highbanks that night. Heat 1 winner: 77F Denny Furlow Heat 2 winner: 12 Kyle Pease The feature saw the XXX of Brandon Oldham leading them to the line. Denny Furlow started on the outside pole and was able to get to the point spot quickly after the race started. First caution was for a flat tire on the B-99 of Mark Bergfelt, his second right rear to come off the bead of the night. The first time, it ended his run in the second heat. Mark's bad luck started in heat 1 when the studs on his left rear sheared off, causing a spin with one lap left. Ok, back to the feature. Oldham, who was running his first race of the season, was running in contention when he suddenly slowed on the track and threw his hand up. Word is that his carb pulled off of his YZ250F and put an end to his chances. Following that caution, the race continued green flag. Furlow tried to hold onto 2nd, but his tires were fading and the 7 of Dan Burket was rolling. Burket was able to catch the 12X of Kyle Pease who shuffled his way to the point spot. Lap after lap, Pease and Burket were nearly nose to tail, cleanly making it around the track and through traffic. When the final flag was waving, Kyle Pease claimed another KUAS victory. Thank you to Chuck, Verna, and the whole Red Rock crew for giving us a fast track to get around. Despite the high heat and sun, dust was minimal, the track was in great shape, and the facility was once again top notch. Next race is the final race of the season, the John Smith Memorial race at Blairsville Speedway on August 17th. This is a 1/4 point race for the KUAS and we will be joined by the Empire UAS. See you there! Steve T It was a dicey day weather wise for our trip to Pittsfield Championship Karting Association, but we got it in!! Rain was all around and even in the afternoon of the event, but the track workers stayed on it to give us a surface to race. This was a special Saturday show, sponsored by Chautauqua Machine Sprockets - for the UAS and the Mini Outlaws. Weather was a factor in turnout, as there was 6 muscle karts to take on the three sided speedway.
All 6 muscle karts were running at the end of the event which went green flag the entire way! When it was all said and done, Kyle Pease claimed the win once again in the region and added to his points total lead. Results:
I was another fun night of racing. Even though there were few karts on the track, Tim - Larry - Bob - Jason- and rest of the Pittsfield crew busted their backsides to make sure we could get the event in. I cannot say enough considering how much rain and how ominous the skies looked around the track. They definitely have my thanks!! Next stop is the home of the 2019 Northeast Divisional - Red Rock Raceway on July 24th. See ya’ll there!! Steve T The Keystone UAS made the trip to Blairsville this week to take on the red clay track. Racing was close all night long and when it came to the feature - these karts were flying. Kyle Pease started from the pole and started to check out on the field. From the back of the pack. Denny Furlow and Steve Windle were right in there battling for position. Dan Burket, who started towards the back, was slowly making his way through the field. By about halfway through, the kart lit and soon he was chasing down Pease for the lead. The final 5 laps were some of the closest laps of the night with the crowd watching and hollering as Burket and Pease cleanly raced it out for the point spot. When the checkered flag flew, it was Pease holding off the hard charging Burket for the win.

It was a fun night! The track was as good as I have ever seen it. Kuddos to Pete and the Blairsville crew for an awesome surface!! They always make us feel welcome there and definitely rolled out the carpet for us again. Also great job to the drivers - feature went green flag the whole way through with all karts that started finishing the event. Next stop for the KUAS is the tricky triangle - Pittsfield Championship Karting Association - July 6th. Steve T The skies held clear for a night of racing at "The Bullring" - Naugle Speedway. The Keystone UAS along with half a dozen from the Upstate NY region rolled through the night for the 1st KUAS 1/4pt race of the season. 13 muscle karts signed in for the event. The drivers were separated in 3 groups for heat racing.
Kyle Pease, Brett Mesler, and Skip Giberson all won both of their respective heat races. To the feature - 12 muscle karts started the final round. The first couple laps were cautioned filled as the field was trying to get set into positions. Lap 1 saw a pair of spins in turns 3 & 4. Lap 2 was a spin on the backstretch, a good portion of the field was able to get by except for Hillary Truitt's kart was clipped and turned straight into the wall. That ended her run for the night. Action was fast and close throughout the feature with Kyle Pease out front. Pease was stretching out the lead then the caution came out with 5 laps to go. On the restart, there appeared to be contact between Pease and second place kart of Brett Mesler. Both went to the back for the ensuing restart. That put Skip Giberson out front of the field. Caution came out again as Mesler's ride came to stop in the infield. Giberson jumped out to a quick lead and then the caution came out on final time for a spin involving Paul Deasey and Eric Grice. Final green flag laps were clicked off with Skip Giberson pulling away from the field, Troy Giberson battling with Ben Taft for the second spot - able to grab it coming into the final turns. Results:
Congratulations to Skip Giberson picking up the win and team Giberson with Troy rolling in the second spot. This was a very fast and laps were burning off quickly. Laps in the low 8 second mark mean things happen very quickly. I want to thank Ed Naugle and the staff at Naugle for a fun night of racing! Also would like to thank Lunn Motorsports for adding sponsorship to the purse! Next race will be June 22nd at Blairsville Speedway. Unfortunately, I am cancelling the race at Red Rock this weekend. I have received several messages from the long haul travelers and the forecast looks to be too iffy to have a points event this weekend. I had to make the decision early and I would rather be on the safe side than have people coming 4+ hours to turn around and drive back or possibly be there until 2am.
This race will count as a drop on the KUAS season. Next race is a 1/4 point event at Naugle Speedway. June 8th. I apologize for any inconveniences. Steve T 2019 Keystone Unlimited All Stars Schedule- ready to kick off the 30th season of muscle kart racing!

No changes will be made during the season unless for unforeseen situations, in which will only be adjusted by KUAS member majority vote. ** UAS Grand National & Northeast Divisional are post season events Steve T The John Smith Memorial, the final race of the season and the second national quarter point race. Going into the event, Denny Furlow and Paul Deasey Jr were tied for the points lead. Dan Burket was in third, only two points behind. Brian Hartzell and Mark Bergfelt were within striking distance, inside 20 points from the lead three. Fourteen muscle karts entered the last points race of the season. Remember Mother Nature- well we lucked out on this race. All forecasts pointed to the continuation of rains we had seen all week. By Saturday morning, the forecast was looking better and by the start of racing- no rain in sight. Action was close and got faster and tighter as the night rolled on. Some favorites in the event fell victim to mechanical issues. The feature started thirteen and racing was close and fast. Very few cautions and lots of position swapping. Out front was Dan Burket for most of the race and as the laps were winding down a fast approaching Brandon Oldham kept cutting the lead down. When the checkers flew, Burket held on for the win.
With the win at Blairsville, Burket not only won the race but claimed the Keystone UAS Championship. This is Burket's first KUAS Championship - although he has been within striking distance for a few seasons now. What a great year and an exciting way to wrap it up! Thanks to everyone who made this another one for the record books! 2019 marks the 30th season of muscle kart racing so hang on, it's going to be a ride!! Steve T |
