On a ripping hot Saturday, the Keystone UAS traveled to their first eastern PA stop of the year at Hunterstown Speedway. Of the eight muscle karts that started the event, 3 of them were the first time their karts were out this year and 1 other was in his first UAS race. It made for some interesting testing and many little bugs caused most of the attrition in the event.
The track was smooth and hard when features came around. Of the eight that started the day, three made it to the feature. Despite Ernie Confer picking up 4 tenths from the heat to the feature, it wasn't enough to run down Steve Windle, Jr, who claimed both heats as well. Josh Bergfelt continued to show improvements in this race and finished a strong third. Feature Results:
So many people to thank for this event - as always the drivers who come out to put on the show, Jody Pritt and the rest of Hunterstown Speedway for an incredible track and smooth running show, Hunterstown Kart Club for adding to the purse so everyone walked away with something, everyone who stopped by to ask questions and check out the rides. Also, although it was a tough first day, it was nice to have Jesse Short take some laps with us. Next up is a trip to the second dirt triangle of the season, Penns Creek Raceway on August 7, 2021. The Keystone UAS made the trip to the Northern PA triangle, Pittsfield Championship Karting Association, for the first 3 sided track race of the year. This race was sponsored by Chautauqua Machine Sprockets - the leader in getting high horsepower to the ground, reliably, and affordably.
Racing was fast and clean with very limited cautions. The tweaking of the track design and the addition of new clay made for a very smooth surface and provided a lot of great action all night. Nearly all of the 6 muscle karts started the feature, only one unable to was the 83 of Ernie Confer. A bent gear hub in the 1st heat kept dumping the chain. As for the feature, Steve Windle Jr parked it for his first win at Pittsfield. Josh Bergfelt came in second and Tara Lawrence held on for the final podium spot. Finish Order: 51A Steve Windle Jr
All in all a good night up north, no injuries and no major breakdowns. It was also great to catch up with some good friends we see only a handful of times a year! Thank you to Tim, Jason, Larry, and the whole crew at Pittsfield for allowing us to turn some laps on a very nice track, all the prep involved. Also, thank you to Denny and Cindy Furlow - Chautauqua Machine Sprockets - for sponsoring the night's event. Check them out for your sprockets and other machining needs. Next race is the first 1/4pt venture of the season - a trip to Hunterstown Speedway. Steve T |
