The Keystone UAS made the trip to Blairsville this week to take on the red clay track. Racing was close all night long and when it came to the feature - these karts were flying. Kyle Pease started from the pole and started to check out on the field. From the back of the pack. Denny Furlow and Steve Windle were right in there battling for position. Dan Burket, who started towards the back, was slowly making his way through the field. By about halfway through, the kart lit and soon he was chasing down Pease for the lead. The final 5 laps were some of the closest laps of the night with the crowd watching and hollering as Burket and Pease cleanly raced it out for the point spot. When the checkered flag flew, it was Pease holding off the hard charging Burket for the win.

It was a fun night! The track was as good as I have ever seen it. Kuddos to Pete and the Blairsville crew for an awesome surface!! They always make us feel welcome there and definitely rolled out the carpet for us again. Also great job to the drivers - feature went green flag the whole way through with all karts that started finishing the event. Next stop for the KUAS is the tricky triangle - Pittsfield Championship Karting Association - July 6th. Steve T

The skies held clear for a night of racing at "The Bullring" - Naugle Speedway. The Keystone UAS along with half a dozen from the Upstate NY region rolled through the night for the 1st KUAS 1/4pt race of the season. 13 muscle karts signed in for the event. The drivers were separated in 3 groups for heat racing.
Kyle Pease, Brett Mesler, and Skip Giberson all won both of their respective heat races. To the feature - 12 muscle karts started the final round. The first couple laps were cautioned filled as the field was trying to get set into positions. Lap 1 saw a pair of spins in turns 3 & 4. Lap 2 was a spin on the backstretch, a good portion of the field was able to get by except for Hillary Truitt's kart was clipped and turned straight into the wall. That ended her run for the night. Action was fast and close throughout the feature with Kyle Pease out front. Pease was stretching out the lead then the caution came out with 5 laps to go. On the restart, there appeared to be contact between Pease and second place kart of Brett Mesler. Both went to the back for the ensuing restart. That put Skip Giberson out front of the field. Caution came out again as Mesler's ride came to stop in the infield. Giberson jumped out to a quick lead and then the caution came out on final time for a spin involving Paul Deasey and Eric Grice. Final green flag laps were clicked off with Skip Giberson pulling away from the field, Troy Giberson battling with Ben Taft for the second spot - able to grab it coming into the final turns. Results:
Congratulations to Skip Giberson picking up the win and team Giberson with Troy rolling in the second spot. This was a very fast and laps were burning off quickly. Laps in the low 8 second mark mean things happen very quickly. I want to thank Ed Naugle and the staff at Naugle for a fun night of racing! Also would like to thank Lunn Motorsports for adding sponsorship to the purse! Next race will be June 22nd at Blairsville Speedway. |
