The Keystone UAS joined up with the Empire and Upstate NY regions for the 4th annual Northeast Divisional. The NE Divisional race is one to crown a champion of the collective regions using points accrued from the 1/4 points races and this particular race to make a champion. Next season will see the addition of the Central NY UAS joining into the title hunt.
This year's event took place as a part of the Kevin Ward Memorial race at Allagany Memorial Speedway. AMS is a just over 1/10 mile bullring located in Wellsville, NY. The gates opened early for the show that included several races for Youth and Clone drivers. Also highlighted was the newly formed Junior UAS division. Just as the show was about to get underway, the rains came. This put us in rain delay for about 2 hours. Despite the pouring water, the track was ready within an hour and racing got underway. Twenty-four opens took to the track for the qualifying with local hot shoe Jimmy White setting fast time with an 8.573. Ben Taft was a close second with 8.692, Robbie Sarchet at 8.696 in :hirdRon O'Neil at 8.739 in fourth and Denny Furlow recording a 8.797 in fifth, Eleven drivers came in under 9 seconds! Qualifying set the lineup for the heats. Top two in heats raced in the Dash for Cash Top two in heats were: Heat 1 - Jimmy White & Denny Furlow Heat 2- Ben Taft & Kirk Cox Heat 3- Robbie Sarchet & Raymond Vossler Heat 4- Austin Suain & Ron O'Neil The Dash for cash was a great battle between the eight on the track with Robbie Sarchet crossing the line the winner with Jimmy White in second and Austin Suain rounding out the top 3. That set the lineup for the top eight feature spots. With four others automatically making it on time, it came down to the "B" Main to put the final four competitors in for the "A" Main. The "B" was a hard fought race that saw quite a few caution laps. When the dust settled, John Garde held on for the win with Kyle Pease, Steve Cox, and Brian Hartzell transferring into the "A". That leads us into the feature which was one of the best races I have seen in a while. Robbie Sarchet and JImmy White raced each other quite well, showing that they were some of the fastest muscle karts to take on the bullring. A few cautions and close calls, including White bringing out the caution. He was able to race back to a battle with Kirk Cox for second, but Sarchet had checked out on the field, winning the race and collecting the $1000 check. In the feature, Sarchet had set the fast time for the night with a lap of 8.383! Thank you to Jimmy White who worked with Layfields to be a part of the show, the NYDKS for timing and scoring, all the drivers, fans, and sponsors who make these events possible. Ron O'Neil's 4th place finish secured him the title of Northeast Divisional Champion. Jimmy White finished 2nd only 8 points back- John Garde was 3rd, Kyle Pease 4th, and Jeff Drugan was 5th.
